National Defense Authorization Act

The USDA OIG is required to notify non-governmental organizations or business entities when they are specifically identified in a published audit, evaluation, inspection, or other non-investigative report. The purpose of the notification is to afford the specifically identified NGO or business entity an opportunity to submit a written response to USDA OIG about each such reference to the NGO or business entity in the published report. Any such non-governmental organization or business entity has 30 days from the date of publication to provide its written response. Submit a response to USDA OIG.

Prior OIG Engagements Relevant to the Agricultural Research Service’s Disaster Relief Supplemental Appropriations Funding

We reviewed the results of prior OIG and Government Accountability Office engagements that were relevant to the to the supplemental disaster funding provided by the American Relief Act, 2025. We identified areas with reported past weaknesses and recommendations that may provide the Agricultural Research Service's (ARS) insight when disbursing funds allotted by the Act.

OIG Oversight Plan American Relief Act Funding

The American Relief Act of 2025 provided the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) with approximately $39.8 billion to carry out projects and activities related to agricultural disaster assistance. It also provided USDA Office of Inspector General with $7.5 million for oversight of such projects and activities carried out with the funds made available to USDA under the Act. This document describes our plan to oversee these funds.

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) inspected two U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) offices to assess inventory and information security controls for excessing USDA’s computer equipment. OIG’s objectives were to determine whether USDA is effectively managing excess equipment in its inventory and whether controls exist to provide reasonable assurance that USDA has adequate security over its excessed equipment.
